Registering an item offers two benefits: |

Confirmation of mailing: the sender gets a receipt confirming that the letter was sent. |

Delivery against signature: delivery of the registered item to the addressee or to the addressee's authorized agent is affected only after the recipient produces satisfactory identification and signs a receipt. |
Optional service:
Confirmation of delivery: The addressee signs a card upon taking delivery of the registered item and the card is returned to sender via air mail. |
